Stanley Ho had dedicated his entire life to the service of China, Hong Kong and Macau. With his patriotic conviction and visionary leadership, Dr. Ho had led his companies to conceive and invest in various key initiatives which complemented the sustainable progress of our nation. Dr Stanley Ho (1921-2020), the Legendary Emperor of Gaming, passed away on Tuesday 26th of May 2020 at the age of 98. Stanley Ho Hung Sun was born on 25th of November 1921 in Hong Kong. His father left when he was a young man, leaving him to struggle to take care of his mother and siblings.

Dr Stanley HO Hung-sun was born in Hong Kong. His business interest span the world with particular emphasis on Hong Kong, Macau, Chin and Portugal, which cover shipping, tourism, entertainment, hospitality, property, finance, airport and airline. He currently serves as a Standing Committee member of the 10th National Committee member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
Devoted to the development of the Hong Kong economy, Dr Ho has been the President of the Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong since 1984. He is the founder and Group Executive Chairman of the publicly listed conglomerate Shun Tak Holdings Limited, and also Group Executive Chairman of the Hong Kong-listed Melco International Development Limited.
In Macau, he is Managing Director of both Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau, SARL (STDM) and its subsidiary Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, SA (SJM), Vice-chairman of Macau International Airport Company Limited, as well as Chairman of Macau Jockey Club. He has been appointed a member of the Economic Council and a trustee of Macau Foundation by the Macau SAR Government. In 1998, an avenue was named after Dr Ho, who is the first Chinese in the history of Macau to receive such honour during one’s lifetime.
Aside from being a successful entrepreneur, Dr Ho is also known for is philanthropic generosity and active participation n the promotion of education, sports, arts and culture, and other community services. He is a vice-patron of The Community Chest, a trustee of the Better Hong Kong Foundation, a founding member of the Court of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a Council member of the University of Macau, Honorary Chair of the Council of the Macao University of Science and Technology, Permanent Honorary President of the Association of Chinese Culture and Art of Macau, and a patron of the Society of the Academy for Performing Arts. He was elected Chairman of the University of Hong Kong Foundation for Educational Development and Research when it was founded in 1995, and is now its Honorary Lifetime Chairman.
An ardent supporter of the cultural development of Hong Kong and Macau, Dr Ho has sponsored numerous cultural activities and events such as being a major sponsor of each year’s Hong Kong Arts Festival. He is dedicated to the nurturing of talents for society and to the promotion of cultural exchanges between Hong Kong, Macau and China. Aside from financial support, he also actively participates in a variety of performances, such as singing, dancing, Chinese opera, etc., for the purpose of raising funds for charities.
Actively involved in facilitating the smooth return of Hong Kong and Macau to China, Dr Ho has been a member of the consultative Committee for the Basic Law of the Hong Kong SAR. He has also been a Vice-President of both Preparatory Committee and Basic Law Drafting Committee of the Macau SAR. An advisor to Beijing’s 2008 Olympic Games Bidding Committee, he has made a substantial donation to the construction of the National Swimming Centre. He founded the Stanley Ho Astronautics Training Foundation in China in 1990 and built the Stanley Ho Astronautics Training Centre in Langfang, Hebei Province. He was proclaimed a Honourable Citizen of Beijing in 2001 and of Guangzhou in 1993.
In 2001, Dr Ho was awarded the Gold Lotus Medal of Honour by the Macau SAR Government, and in 2003, the Gold Bauhinia Star of the Hong Kong SAR Government. With his international profile, Dr Ho has been conferred honorary decorations by many foreign governments. Several times honoured by the Portuguese Government, Dr Ho was granted the award of Grã-Cruz da Ordem do Infante Dom Henrique, the highest honour for a civilian, in 1995. In 1999, Dr Ho was awarded Nuno Goncalo Vieira Matias, the highest Portuguese Navy Decoration, and in 2001, the Gold Medal of Merit in Tourism.
In the United Kingdom, Dr Ho was awarded Commander of the Most Venerable Order of St John of Jerusalem in 1983 and Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1990.

The French Government bestowed upon Dr Ho Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur in 1984, and the Ministry of Social Affairs of Spain honoured him with the Cruz de Plata de la Medalla de la Solidaridad in 1993.
In 1987, Dr Ho was awarded Insignia of the Order of the Sacred Treasure by the Emperor of Japan; and in 1989, Eqvitem Commendatorem Ordinis Sancti Gregorii Magni by his Holiness Pope John Paul II.

He was awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Social Sciences by the University of Macau, the University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1984, 1987 and 2003 respectively. He is also an Honorary Professor the Jinan University of China.
